HIV and Aids by Marina Coleman

HIV and Aids by Marina Coleman
Pub: Jacana 2010 | 82 Pages | ISBN 978-1-77009-651-6 | English | 23.2 MB

Hiv and Aids addresses this gap in our HIV- Aids education by delivering colourful illustrations and a lot of easily understandable information that is accessible to everyone from 10 to 60. Marina Coleman says, the aim was for people to buy the book, hand it over to their children, spouse or domestic workers and place it in schools and community centres. It is more like a magazine than a highbrow tome to put on your shelf or coffee table. Though it is not a comic book, it is infused with humour to lighten the subject, said Yalo, referring to page 14 of the book, in which an unprotected quickie on the road side between a truck driver and sex worker takes place outside a truck with a warning on it that declares: “Report Bad Driving”. Characters in the book include Mr and Mrs Condom, Mr ARV, Marina Coleman and Siphiso Yalo themselves and others. The book covers the history of the disease, how it is spread, how you get it, how you know you have HIV-Aids and the various ways to avoid contracting the disease. The book also explains, in a manner very easy to grasp, what happens to the body once the disease has been contracted and how to treat it. Lastly, it deals with the rights of people with HIV.
